Training as a private detective

As in many other countries, the profession of private detectives is not recognised in Switzerland and is therefore a free profession. Consequently, there is no possibility of completing a state recognised professional training course to become a private detective and there is also no title of “federally certified private detective”. Although some so-called “detective schools” suggest it in their advertising, it is almost impossible to find full-time employment with a private detective agency in Switzerland, as the detective agencies in this country are predominantly small businesses that are barely able to keep one employee busy and therefore have no corresponding demand. Similarly, the earning potential offered by so-called “detective schools” is usually unrealistic. Some of these “detective schools” have already been criticised several times in the press, with a blatant discrepancy between the high training costs and the corresponding return. For this reason, the FSPD recommends the following course:

Zentralstelle für die Ausbildung im Detektivgewerbe (ZAD) GmbH
The ZAD offers training programmes for private detectives and department stores’ detectives. The training is mainly conducted by distance learning.
